The winemakers - João Tavares de Pina

João Tavares de Pina produces his wines on the family-owned property, Quinta da Boavista, located in Penalva do Castelo. The estate spans 13 hectare of vineyards with granite, clay and shale soils at elevations ranging from 450m to 600m.

At Quinta da Boavista, João Tavares de Pina crafts his wines naturally, with minimal intervention at the winery, low sulfur levels and without filtration. He follows a philosophy of respect for nature, ensuring the preservation of vineyard biodiversity by allowing the growth of native species such as chamomile, lavender, and various legumes between the vine rows. This approach prioritizes the relationship between the vineyard and other species in the ecosytem. Quinta da Boavista anually produces around 45000 bottles of elegant, distinctive and daring wines.

Unfortunately, in 2024, João lost 85% of his vinyeard to the wildfires and is currently rebuilding. Fortunately, the winery was spared and we can still enjoy his wines.
