FAQ

Choosing and buying wine can sometimes feel like a daunting experience, with so many options and details to consider. At our natural wine shop, we're dedicated to making this process as easy and enjoyable as possible for you. Whether you're a seasoned connoisseur or a casual wine enthusiast, we're here to guide you every step of the way. Below are some of the most common questions our customers ask us about our wine shop, our products, and our services.

Wine-related questions

Natural wines, depending on who you ask, are the most extreme form of minimal intervention, encompassing only grapes as the ingredient in the wine, with some allowing a very low dose of sulfites. It's not a term widely embraced by producers, who typically avoid it since wine doesn't come directly from the vine—grapes do. Minimal intervention means a wine that has undergone little manipulation in the winery. The concept is broader, as minimal intervention arises in response to the maximum intervention typical in the wine industry.

The terms minimal intervention and natural wines often overlap and can mean the same thing, depending on the context. Naked wines, without any makeup and reflecting the purity of the territory and the grape, might be a more immediate term.

In our News section, there are entries that discuss these concepts in greater detail and complexity.

The definition of orange wines comes from the color that many macerated wines exhibit: orange. As you might imagine, these wines do not contain oranges; rather, they are wines that remain in contact with the grape skins for a certain period of time. There are wines considered orange with only a few days of maceration — the contact of the juice with the skins — up to wines that have several months, or even years, of skin contact. The term is used for white wines that, due to skin contact, are more structured than the so-called "whites" from direct pressing, where skin contact is minimized.

Abbreviation for Pétillant Naturel, naturally sparkling, these are sparkling wines typically with less persistent bubbles compared to classic method wines such as Champagnes, Cavas, or Portuguese Espumantes. These wines undergo only one fermentation, unlike classic method sparkling wines, and are bottled at the end of fermentation, which naturally creates carbon dioxide until the fermentation completes, keeping the bubbles. Unlike classic methods that have two fermentations — where the first turns grape juice into wine and the second occurs in the bottle with the addition of yeast and sugars (ideally with grape must) — the end of the first fermentation happens in the bottle for pet-nats.

In the most faithful examples, the wine is only opened again by the consumer with all the lees still inside, sometimes resulting in amusing images of a wine shower shooting from the bottle when opened. Don't worry, most pét-nats are safe to open at inside your home and nothing goes to waste.

Of course! The best way to discover our wines is by joining our natural wine club (here!) and embarking on a journey where you’ll regularly receive 2, 4 or 6 bottles to explore. If for any reason you don’t want to receive our wine club boxes anymore, you can cancel your subscription at any time. Alternatively, you can email us with your preferences and whether the wine is for a special occasion, and we’ll try to provide you with 2 or 3 different options so you can choose a wine that meets your needs and preferences.

All of our producers have their own websites or social media pages, and it's always interesting to take a look at what they're up to, often showcasing spectacular images of the vineyard or winery.

In addition to your own discovery, our News section features a dedicated page for each producer and each of their wines includes a brief description.
