The winemakers - Humus

 

Rodrigo Filipe produces his wine on the slopes of Quinta do Paço, a family-owned property in Alvorninha, in the municipality of Caldas da Rainha, located just 20km from the Atlantic Ocean. With organic certification since 2007, Rodrigo crafts his wines with minimal intervention, without the addition of chemicals, except for a very small amount of sulfites and without clarification or filtration.


He cultivates 9 hectare of vineyards (out of the 20 hectare that make up Quinta do Paço) in clay-limestone soils, with grape varieties such as Castelão, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca, Syrah, Vital, Arinto, Fernão Pires, and Sauvignon Blanc. Here, refreshing sea breezes and high humidity are common, creating a microclimate that allows the grapes to enjoy a longer and slower ripening period while maintaining good acidity levels.

From these unique conditions and from Rodrigo’s willingness to experiment result complex, Atlantic-influenced, light and fresh wines.
